IRocko Bernardo walks into a room and immediately attention is granted. His mere presence bequests respect. But on this particular June evening, amongst family and friends, at 88 years young, he is not just respected, he is admired. He is treasured. In a leisurely setting, it is easy to take notice of his overlooked qualities – a deep laugh, a wide smile and a love for his family that overflows in his speech.
In any culture, sharing a meal is the most common form of hospitality and relationship. And our Italian friends are well known for both. This particular night, we were invited as friends. Moore & Giles colleagues Tray Petty, Brooks Morrison and Daryl Calfee were invited to an intimate family-style dinner at the summer home of Rocko Bernado on the hillside of Bassano de Grappa, Italy. Laced with olive trees and vineyards, the hills were the backdrop of the picturesque dinner setting as guests mingled and reunited.
The delicious dinner consisted of traditional Italian classics – fresh local mozzarella, sizzling sirloins on an open flame, homemade squash blossoms and wine from Bernado’s own vineyard. The 5th generation family has had a long-term friendship with Tray, president Sackett Wood and chairman Don Giles – which has also flourished into a budding business partnership. It was a great opportunity to connect with the members of the Adelaide Tannery and enjoy the company of some of our favorite friendships. In this business we have quickly come to realize not only have we made valuable connections that will help grow and flourish our business, but we have made genuine friendship and long-lasting relationships that will carry on far beyond the doors of our Lynchburg headquarters. This night was perfect a example.
